Quilters Hall of Fame inductee Carrie Hall (18661955) lived in Leavenworth, Kansas during the majority of her career. Her quilt block collection represents an early comprehensive index of quilt patterns. Two blocks Hall designed herself are a Leavenworth and Tonganoxie Nine-Patch, named in honor Halls hometown and a neighboring one. I modified Halls designs to produce this pattern, named Tonganoxie Split in honor of a local weather legend that the hills around Tonganoxie tend to divert approaching storm systems.
